Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is now officially open to the public after years of anticipation. Disneyland guests who were lucky enough to snag a highly coveted reservation are now able to roam around the new area of the Anaheim theme park and interact with the Star Wars universe like never before. But, this is all more than just a few new rides with some expensive merchandise. There is a story and it takes place after the events of The Last Jedi and it sets up The Rise of Skywalker.

At the conclusion of The Last Jedi, the Resistance has been pretty much wiped out. The Rise of Skywalker takes place after a time jump because the Resistance needed some time to rebuild, which is where Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge comes into play. The new theme park expansion takes place on the planet Batuu, where the Resistance has landed in an effort to rebuild and gain allies. While on Batuu, General Organa has a plan.

General Organa sends one of her top spies, Vi Moradi, to the remote Black Spire Outpost. Moradi was first introduced in the Phasma novelization and will be featured in the upcoming Black Spire novel, which is tied into Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. While park visitors are walking around, Moradi is seen running around and stopping guests about their allegiance, hoping they’ll say they are there to help the Resistance. This is a pretty clever way to play into the Resistance rebuilding from the myth of the Force and Luke Skywalker spreading across the galaxy. However, things aren’t always what they seem on Batuu and the First Order has a presence too.

Vi Moradi is out to help gain allies for the Resistance and the First Order is out get information on what’s going on. Stormtroopers can be seen walking around Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, which will cause Moradi to run and hide if she comes close to them. Kylo Ren can also be seen walking around the park questioning alliances and looking for more information to take down the Resistance. Sadly, The Rise of the Resistance ride is not ready at the new area of the park yet.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland does not spoil anything about The Rise of Skywalker, but it is an interesting way to immerse fans in the latest trilogy. Everything is working together, which explains much of the secretive tactics Disneyland was using to keep everything under wraps. The Resistance will get the allies they need, but will they all be from Batuu? Are there any spies? We’re just going to have to wait and see when the movie hits theaters later this year. For now, Star Wars fans can expect some major wait times and crowded visits to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. For more information on getting into the park, you can head over to the Disneyland site.
